Philippians 4:11

So this post has been years in the making with one question still not answered...

where do we belong?

so how do you go from here...

and here...
but not '78...'01  :)

& from where this beautiful background was taken...

to here...
where you fell in love...

with not only this place...but with the man you're spending the rest of your life with...

so that this...
could happen in the town that you fell in love with that man...

but then you crossed back over this bridge...

to here...

where you grew into this...

where you had fun like this...

So the question again is...

where do we belong?

All these pics are from 3 places in our life...

Severna Park

Salisbury

Frederick (there, I actually typed it right)

So this has been a debate in the Fohner Household for a while now...God has made it very clear that we were supposed to be in those places for exactly the times that we were...

SP  -  years 0-19

SU  -  years 19-22

F  -  years 22-26 (present time...these are my ages, BTW)

So presently, here we are...yet there are those places & the memories from them seared in our brains.

So life brings us here...

where do we belong?

Choices like these are made in life everyday, but why are they so hard?

where do we belong?

At least, in the meantime, at least...we wait.

We wait for Him...we wait for His leading...we wait.

In the meantime, until the answer is given about where we are supposed to be, we rest in knowing that that answer, like all other answers to questions we have sought to be answered by Him will be answered...and the blessing that await us will be like all others...full of beauty, surprises, unexplainable joy, & yes, even some pain...but it will be a blessing.

And we also know that one day, all questions will be answered...and we'll be where we belong...

with Him, where we belong, forever  :)

Fair Day Weekend

Who wants to live the collegiate lifestyle over again for a weekend?
We do...
No, we did not have any alcohol over the weekend (though Kyle does look like it here)...

No, seriously though...who wouldn't want to re-live like a college student for a weekend?

staying up to whenever you feel like it,
getting up whenever you feel like it,
doing whatever you feel like...
& in mine & Thew's case, not have to worry to much about spending $ b/c you worked your tail off over the summer so you'd have enough $ saved up so you could do stuff on the weekends

I mean, in our life now, we totally can do all the above on pretty much any given weekend...we don't have kids yet, so there's no pre-set schedule b/c of that; we don't have to work on the weekends; we earn enough $ now to be able to afford doing a lot of cool things on the weekend & summer; LIFE IS GOOD  :)

Plus, we're married now, which in college we desperately wanted to be.  B/c when you know (just months into your relationship) that you want to spend the rest of your life with that person you're with, what holds you back from actually getting married?  A degree, that's what & when you both still have 2 entire years left of school, it's challenging to wait that long to get married.  But we were patient, grew to love each other more, & waited for God's timing.

That timing to make things official came in the Spring of our Senior Year on a extra rainy Easter Monday when I was asked the best question ever...2nd best day of our life.  Followed a little over 4 months later by the best day of our life, when things really became official & we slipped those now tarnished & scratched rings on our fingers for the 1st time :)

Thew & I absolutely LOVE our life now, don't get me wrong.  This is exactly where I wanted to be @ 26...

married to the man of my dreams,
mom to a beautiful & sweet black lab puppy (the exact color & breed I've always wanted),
friends & family to the best people in the world,
homeowner of a house we've helped make our own with plenty of sweat equity,
working a job I absolutely love with awesome people & great students.

The only thing missing is making our family at least triple in size  :)  And I should rephrase that...I don't feel like a part of us is missing, I just know that our family will be a little more complete when 3-5 little Fohner's are running around this pad.  We both believe that it is whole now, but we both know that God has made it clear that we are supposed to have children someday.  It's in our life verse that Thew & I picked out for our wedding day (Malachi 2:15...look it up, it's a good one  :)

So, just like when we were in college, we will wait for His timing on that one  ;)  We're both actively seeking an answer for when that time is, but we're also resting in the fact that it'll happen when it happens & for now we're just going to enjoy being a family of two.  Everyone that we know who already has kids has said don't rush it & we definitely don't want to do that.  We've only know each other for 6 years (on this Halloween night, to be exact...on which I have a very special surprise date planned to commemorate that special night), have only dated for 5 & 1/2, and only been married for 3...so we both feel it's a little too soon for additions to the family now.  Now this is made a little hard by the fact that we are the only couple out of all of our friends who has been married for as long as we have & aren't already pregnant or been pregnant (yes, all of our friends started super young).  But for now, we're just waiting on the go ahead from God on getting that phase of our life started.  What will be cool about that is that if something crazy doesn't happen between then & now, we will be the only ones of our friends who actually has a planned pregnancy for their 1st child.  We are totally aware that God can break through anything He wants to have a couple get pregnant (as evidenced by our friends), but we both teach Health & Family Life to middle schoolers, so we pretty much know how to prevent a surprise from happening in pretty effective ways.  Not that we wouldn't welcome a surprise...that would completely make it clear that it was God planning that baby & not us, but anyone who knows me, knows this girl is a planner.  Which is also why I don't do well when my boat is rocked by change...but that's another blog post for another day...

So I digress back to this weekend...wow, that was quite a tangent..
on the right is Ash's little sister, Danielle, next to her roommate Bridget...

Ash & I slept over @ their apartment on campus on Friday while the husbands camped out in our friends, Ed & Jenette's, backyard...yes, camped out.  Yes, Ed & Jenette have a guest bedroom & plenty of room to sleepover there...no, the husbands were not interested (weirdo's).  It's been a dream of their's for a few months now to set up a tent late at night in their backyard & camp out for the night to surprise them in the morning.  What would you do if you saw a tent in your backyard in the morning?  Fall over laughing (if you're Jenette) & just stutter and stare in wonderment (if you're Ed).  Not too sure what I would've done...probably walk outside with our medal baseball bat we keep under the bed & beat the tent down...

Ash & I...

getting ready for the beach on Saturday morning...

these two make me wish I had a little sister real bad...I have 3 awesome older ones & 2 sweet little bro's, but no little sis...

the victims themselves @ our favorite restaurant in Salisbury, Salsarita's...

here's what we rounded the dunes to find.  It was pretty neat to see the tide pools.  I've never seen OC like this before.  I guess those string of hurricanes have caused the sand to majorly shift...

cool panoramic shot of Ash & Danielle checking out the scene...there weren't very many people there even though it was Sunfest...

Thew & Kyle sprinting to the waves to "body board" or as normal people call it, boogie board...

the Brunner (current & former) Sisters having fun...

Kyle skim boarding from one end of the tide pool to the ocean...

Ash skimming almost to the waves...

Thew on the top left & Sammy Seagull on the bottom right...

you NEEDED a wetsuit to even get in past your calves yesterday...man, is summer really over?

again, Kyle, what's with the weird faces?

I though a pic like this was appropriate since 6 of the 7 of us are/were SU Seagulls  :)

very windy day...that's the thing about going to school @ SU.  It would be showing signs of a PERFECT beach day in Salsibury, so instead of heading to the local docks or pool to sunbathe, naturally, you'd hop in the car for the 30 min. drive to OC.  Only to get there & find it was cloudy & windy.  We veteran beachcombers came prepared in jeans & sweatshirts just in case...

Thew & I...

the look of 139th...

we always come down to Fenwick Island to enjoy the waves here b/c before my parents divorced, we owned a condo on 139th (2 streets away from the state line where Fenwick begins)...

this place brings back a lot of awesome memories...

hard to see the street sign in the lower left of the shot, even with the awesome editing touches of my Mac, but then again....I am a very ametaur photographer...

who doesn't like driving back home to this...

oh, SU & OC...till we meet again, you are always in my heart!

Throwback Thursday

Man, do I wish we could keep the tradition of heading to OC to enjoy scenery like this today...
Fair Day is annual Friday in September when the schools close here in Fred-neck County so that all employees & kids can enjoy the "Great Frederick Fair".  Yes, make sure to always say "Great"...I made the mistake once of calling it "The Fair" and was abruptly corrected.  These country peeps take their fair seriously!

So b/c I refuse to consider myself a Fred-necktonian (even though I have lived here for 3+ years) & I'm a beach girl at heart (man, do I miss the peninsula that is my hometown & the river-lined town on the shore where I attended college) the Barnette & Fohner Fams have always met up with our buddy Ed & his fiance, Jenette, for a weekend on the shore.

Now, this would be the usual deal this year to make it a 4th year tradition, but noooo, some smarties who make our school calendar decided to give the kids off on Fair Day, but make it a Professional Day for the employees!  Which means that we lose out on four 2-Hour-Early-Dismissal Days throughout the year.  What?!

So alas, I will have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to see this...
taken on Fair Day last year...and this...
oh, the memories of good 'ole Salisbury University...

site of the first meeting of the Matthew Fohner Fam,
where we team taught PE together,
where we fell in love,
where I was able to achieve athletically more than I ever could imagine,
where my teammates & I won a National Championship in Field Hockey,
where my teammates & I lost a National Championship Game in Lacrosse by 2 goals in an almost perfect season (& I still have a whole year of eligibility left in both sports...not happening, this 26-year-old body has had it with collegiate athletics!)

...where I was molded into the person I am today.

...and this...
I have to wait a whole 'nother day to see all this?

Fun Fact...my dad attended SU for a semester back in the mid-70's & actually lived in this building before it was the main building on campus.  His dorm was somewhere on the 3rd floor.

All well...at least we still get to go & I get to leave school @ 1:15 tomorrow...woo who!!!

And in other news...
150 views per week...thanks for tuning in  :)

The Future Rodger's Couple Shower

Months in the making...dun, Dun, DAH!!!

The Future Rodger's Couple's Shower
...thrown by the Fred-neck Young Married's Bible Study...hosted by the Fohner Fam...
look at how cute these two are...

the spread...

a sampling of 1 of the desserts (jello & pudding)...Charlie & Christa's colors are Pool Blue & Chocolate (in case you can't tell)...

these cuties met at Hood College only a little over a year ago & starting dating pretty soon afterwards.  Charlie proposed in the Spring & our friend's Carter & Cheryl hosted an Engagement Party for them at our Young Married's Bible Study around that time to celebrate.  We all wanted to so something super special for them in the few months remaining until they get married on November 22nd so the Bible Study decided to throw them a Couple's Shower.

My Aunt Mary hosted one for Thew & I when we got married & we had a blast, so we wanted to do something similar for Charlie & Christa since we love both of them so much...

they pretty much made out (present wise) & Christa still has another shower in 2 weeks that we're trekking down to Hughesville (Southern MD) for that will be hosted by her mom...

opening the presents from Thew & I...

the first of their place settings they registered for...

the happy hosts...

the Barnette Fam...

the Evans' Fam...

Halee & Beth...unfortunately, the only ones out of the Whicker fam who could come since they're all starting to get sick.  The guys definitely missed Jake & we girls missed playing with Karis & baby Jett...

the Davis' Fam (shipping out to Guam in a little over 2 months...man, are we gonna miss them!)...

some hot ladies...a Rocket Scientist sandwiched between 2 PE teachers (yeah, we have smart friends)...

apparently this is what happens when the guys are still hyper & don't really wanna pose for the camera...I'd be making that face, too, Kyle (especially if the guys standing next to me were standing all strange like that)...

weirdo teachers...Charlie - History, Thew - PE, & Kyle - Math

we had so much fun hanging out with you guys...can't wait for 11/22/08  :)
