Still Deciding on Who to Vote For...

Okay, so I know the Primary is tomorrow and I'm still deciding who to vote for (I know you all are so surprised aren't you [that this procrastinator's not ready yet...oooh, shocker!]) So for all my fellow members of the Last Minute Club, there is the lovely GLASS BOOTH WEBSITE. I saw this while recently blogstalking and LOVED all the info. it provided. Though I have recently heard from a trusted and well-educated radio personality that this is the WORST choice of candidates that we have had in the history of presidential elections, I'm still gonna brave the lines and vote tomorrow anyway. No, I'm not telling who I'm deciding between...you can ask me personally and I'll tell you, but I didn't just want to come out on the internet and share with everyone.

I don't mean to judge, because I definitely have NO desire to become president and have a great respect for those who do because it takes an unimaginable amount of hard work to even be considered a candidate for a presidential election. And no matter who gets elected, you won't hear me complaining about any decision they make (unless it violates ethics, morals, or threatens human life) because let's face it, we're not the president. We don't know what their options were when making that decision and the extreme amount of stress that job brings. That's why it really bugs me how much people complain about Bush or any other person in a leadership position. You're not them, you don't know what it's like, you didn't work as hard as them to get where they are, so if you want a change so bad, do the things they did to get in their position and actually get something to change. Whew! I'll step off my political soapbox for now.

Anyway, just take a few minutes to check the website and vote tomorrow. Really, each vote does count...and anyone who says it doesn't, just be thankful that all of us don't have that philosophy or we wouldn't even have an election!

I Love Weekends :)

It's pretty much decided in our household, that weekends rock our socks off. Our fellow teachers understand this fully...the indescribable pleasure of that Friday afternoon drive home knowing that there are two mornings in a row where we will wake up to the sun already risen and still be in bed instead of already at work. That's right, I said already AT work...the 5:45 AM alarm comes waaay too early some mornings, especially after the Superbowl. Though it is so nice to be done teaching everyday at 2:15 :) And don't get me wrong, we really do like our jobs. There's not a whole lot of things I like more then to help make those challenging teen years a little better for those kids by showing them that there are adults that really do care. What makes it even better is when we can share the most important thing in our lives with them, which is why we love working with our Youth Group.

This weekend was so nice with the Snow Day on Friday, my first basketball game with the 7 & 8-year-olds on Saturday, the Superbowl on Sunday, and squeezing in a visit to my grandparents house with Aslan Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. Our third year of teaching has been SO much easier! I no longer feel anxious about having a fun, crazy, busy weekend like this past one. It's awesome to spend time doing the things that I love (seeing family & friends) with my free time instead of constantly thinking about teaching and planning for teaching on the weekends.

Okay, cute story time...there's a seven year old on the team that says the CUTEST things! At halftime when one girl asked what the score was, I reminded them that we don't keep score and asked them why they thought that was. I got some really good answers, but the best was from little Abby when she said, "We're here to have fun, be really good sports, and show the love of Jesus in how we play." Now how precious is that! Upward Basketball is a really great program that is put on through Baptist churches throughout the US every January-March that has been a great blessing for me to be involved in. Okay, so even cuter...after the game I invited the girls and parents to join us at church the next day and Abby comes up to me afterwards and says, "Coach Lynsey, I just wanted to tell you that I wish I could come to your church because it sounds really fun." Her mother, who was standing right by her, asked what she said. After I repeated it back to her, Abby's mom said, "Oh we can't let her dad know that...he's the pastor at our church!" Wow, was that a good laugh. I <3>

I think that's enough for one evening. I'm still tired from staying up late to watch Eli & the Giants kick some Brady & Patriot tail last night. What a great end to a great weekend to spend watching that game with our Small Group! I love spending time with them and their kids, although playing with the five, 4-year-old through 5-month-olds that were over last night has me a little more tuckered out than usual tonight. Good night to all :)

Our Blog...Finally :)

Okay, so I gave in...since most of my best friends from good ole SP have started blogs, alas, I have given in to their constant begging (that's for you, Di) and decided to start one about our little family. I do see the point of them since I myself am an avid blog stalker and it is a wonderful way to catch up and see how people in your life who are very important to you are doing (if time doesn't allow for a phone call or an e-mail). Though it has taken me until now to actually start one. I'm thinking I'll always be the one posting, but Matthew may be making some surprise guest appearences :)

I hope to use this as a way to keep those we love up to date on all that's happening with us since I often find when there is news to share, it can sometimes be challenging to reach everyone without sending out mass e-mails and then spending hours on the phone with those who don't have e-mail (and there are still some stubborn, "no, I just don't understand e-mail, and if people really want to get in touch with me, they can call!" people out there that we know).

So here's the latest for all you out there...it seems like yesterday that it was Sunday, August 7th, 2005 and the Fohner Family was established in an amazing wedding ceremony not too far away from where I grew up. Since then, it's been 908 days (according to
The Knot) of love, living, and lessons. We both are currently enjoying our 3rd year of teaching Phys. Ed. here in Fred-neck County (Matthew @ the middle school level and me @ the high school level). We also spend a lot of time at our church home, Faith Baptist, where we are volunteer Youth Group Leaders. Since our college athletic careeers are sadly years behind us, we love coaching...Matt as the JV Boys B-ball Coach @ a high school and me (formally, the Head Varsity Girls Lax @ the school I teach at) the church b-ball girl's 1st & 2nd grade team's coach. Though we like our job as teachers, we LOVE summer and look forward to that extra time that we can spend with family and friends, especially at the beach. No little Fohner's yet, as we haven't felt God's call of parenting strong enough to start that adventure (and from all of heard from our friends who are parents, it will be an adventure that we look forward to sharing with you all). Currently, we love being parents to our beautiful, black lab puppy, Aslan, who will turn 2 on April 13th. She's definitely been enough of an adventure since she came into our life a year and a half ago.

Today, Matthew and I enjoyed a much needed day off from school due to a constant icy mix that started early this morning and closed the schools...YES! I think speaking optimistically about having off for today during my classes yesterday helped :) It's been so nice to take some time to catch up on e-mails and such today and more importantly, spend some time together since we're getting to the tail end of the busy b-ball season. Being married is the second best decision I have ever made (a phrase that I'm stealing from Matthew...the best decision that he said he's ever made is accepting Jesus; a statement that I'm stealing from Matthew, as well). In fact, we just prayed earlier today about how blessed we really are with all the things God has given us in our life...our amazing family, wonderful friends, and possessions that God has entrusted to us; our house that we were able to purchase at the tender ages of 25 & 22 (still crazy to think about), our jobs, etc. I feel like if I listed everything, I'd be typing forever. God is SO Good!

Alright, enough blogging for one day...I'm off to enjoy a great, home-cooked meal by the awesome hubby (who is, thankfully, the family cook...I'm still working on not burning things I pop in the microwave after all these years). I LOVE SNOW DAYS!!!
